How an idea grows

Raining Cats and Dogs, Illustration by Alishea Gibson, 2018

In 2018, I illustrated this little illustration of a girl playing in the rain with rain puppies and kittens which was featured both in the Character Design Quarterly Magazine and the Wonderground Gallery in Downtown Disneyland.

It was an idea that always stuck with me and in 2019, I lost my dog, Roxy. She was the best (and possibly hairiest) dog in the world so naturally life was a little less bright without her by my side.

A Lil’ Comic about the Best Dog by Alishea Gibson, 2020

I had always wanted to do a short animated film, and in 2023 I put my big girl pants on an decided it was time! I didn’t have it all figured out, but I gathered some friends and colleagues together and we called ourselves the “Unofficial Shorts Program.” We’ve since grown considerably from those early days and I can’t wait to share more about it here.

Together we’ve started the filmmaking process with the goal of making 2-4min shorts in our spare time, stretching our creative wings and getting waist deep in the chaotic, messy and magical process of creating a short animated film.

Cheers for now,

Alishea
